Job description
Role: Paralegal
Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Contract: Full time, permanent, hybrid
Salary: £25,000 - £27,000
As a Litigation Paralegal within this established in-house legal team, you will play a vital role in managing legal recovery claims relating to commercial property and infrastructure damage. Working within a structured, high-volume environment, your duties will include:
Monitoring Incoming Claims: Regularly review and assess new damage claims submitted by external stakeholders, contractors, or third parties, ensuring accuracy and completeness of information.
Case Management: Handle a personal caseload of legal recovery files from initial instruction through to final resolution. Use internal systems to track progress, maintain documentation, and ensure compliance with service level agreements.
Claim Evaluation & Qualification: Conduct early-stage analysis of claims to determine liability, legal merit, and potential recovery value. Ensure cases meet the required thresholds for progressing to litigation where necessary.
Negotiation & Settlement: Engage with third parties, insurers, and legal representatives to negotiate out-of-court settlements wherever possible, while protecting the organisation's commercial interests.
Litigation Support: Where disputes cannot be resolved through negotiation, prepare case files for formal legal proceedings. This includes drafting pleadings, witness statements, and other relevant legal documents.
Evidence Gathering: Undertake detailed investigative work by analysing technical documents, reviewing planning maps and diagrams, and liaising with internal operational teams to gather essential case facts.
Client Liaison & Stakeholder Communication: Maintain regular contact with internal departments and external parties, including engineers, surveyors, contractors, and claims specialists, to ensure consistent information flow throughout the claims process.
Compliance & Risk Awareness: Ensure that all casework is conducted in line with relevant legislation, regulatory standards, and internal policy. Proactively flag potential legal risks or anomalies to supervising solicitors.
Use of Case Management Systems: Utilise specialist case management software to manage documentation, record actions, and produce reports. Contribute to data accuracy and overall operational efficiency.
