•Finance Assistant
•Permanent, full time
•Up to £28k, hybrid, study support
Finance Assistant This is a brilliant opportunity for someone early in their finance career who wants to build a genuinely well-rounded skill set. Rather than being boxed into one ledger, you'll get hands-on experience across both accounts payable and accounts receivable, giving you a real understanding of how a finance function works. With a salary of up to £28,000, on-site training, study support and hybrid working from a Birmingham city centre office, this role is built to help you grow. We're looking for someone with around 12 to 18 months of finance experience who already knows their way around invoices, payments and reconciliations. You don't need to have it all figured out, but you'll be comfortable with the basics and hungry to learn the rest. If you're the kind of person who wants to understand the "why" behind the numbers, not just process them, you'll fit right in.
What You Will Be Doing
•Taking ownership of processing supplier invoices from start to finish, making sure each one is matched, coded correctly and backed up by the right paperwork.
•Preparing and supporting weekly payment runs so suppliers are paid accurately and on time.
•Reconciling supplier statements and getting to the bottom of any discrepancies before they turn into bigger problems.
•Raising sales invoices and credit notes, keeping the sales ledger accurate and up to date.
•Allocating customer receipts and keeping a close eye on the cash coming into the business.
•Chasing outstanding payments in a friendly but firm way, building strong customer relationships along the way.
•Handling supplier and customer queries by phone and email, becoming the helpful, knowledgeable contact people actually want to deal with.
•Using Excel every day to track, reconcile and report, building your confidence with lookups and pivot tables as you go.
•Supporting the wider team with month-end tasks, giving you early exposure to how the bigger picture comes together.
•Learning from an experienced finance team through structured on-site training, with more responsibility coming your way as your skills grow.
What We Need From You
•Around 12 to 18 months' experience in a finance or accounts role, whether that's purchase ledger, sales ledger or a bit of both.
•Someone who takes real pride in their work. You'll be handling a high volume of invoices and payments, so accuracy really matters and we need someone diligent who naturally double checks their work.
•A confident Excel user who's comfortable working in spreadsheets every day and keen to sharpen those skills even further.
•Someone who genuinely loves to learn and sees training as an opportunity rather than a box to tick.
•A clear, friendly communicator who's happy picking up the phone to chase a payment or sort out a query.
•Someone organised enough to juggle deadlines across both payables and receivables without dropping the ball.
•Ambition to build a long-term career in finance, whether you're already studying towards a qualification or thinking about starting one.
•Available immediately or on a short notice period, as we're keen to get the right person started as soon as possible.
What's in it for you
•A salary of up to £28,000, depending on experience.
•Hybrid working, giving you a healthy balance between the office and working from home.
•Study support to help you work towards a professional finance qualification.
•Structured on-site training from a team who genuinely want to see you succeed.
•A city centre office with excellent train, tram and bus links.
•Real progression, with the chance to build experience across the full finance function rather than just one corner of it.
