Role overview

We are looking for a part time receptionist (18 hrs per week) to join our friendly team. The role of a GP receptionist is an important part of the practice.

Reception is often the first point of contact for patients, whether this is face-to-face, over the telephone, or through online services. As a receptionist, your role is not simply about answering the phone or booking appointments.

You are part of the wider practice team and play an important role in helping patients access the right service and ensuring the practice runs smoothly. Welcoming patients and providing a friendly and professional first point of contact.

Answering telephone calls and dealing with patient queries. Booking, cancelling and changing appointments appropriately.

Helping patients understand how they can access the different services available. Signposting patients to the most appropriate healthcare professional or service.

Processing administrative requests and updating patient information. Handling confidential and sensitive information appropriately.

Supporting GPs, nurses, care coordinators and the wider practice team. Managing patient requests through systems such as the NHS App and online consultation services.

Ensuring messages and requests are passed to the appropriate team member. Following practice policies, procedures and confidentiality requirements.

As a GP Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for patients, providing a friendly, professional and welcoming service. You will handle patient enquiries, book and manage appointments, answer telephone calls, process administrative tasks and signpost patients to the appropriate service.

The role requires excellent communication and organisational skills, a calm and professional manner, and the ability to work effectively as part of a busy practice team. Confidentiality, accuracy and a patient-centred approach are essential.
