Role overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and patient-focused Receptionist/Administrator to join our friendly GP practice team. The successful candidate will work as part of our dispensary team, supporting the safe and efficient preparation and supply of medicines to our patients.

You will play an important role in ensuring that prescriptions are processed accurately, medicines are appropriately stored and stock levels are maintained. This is a busy and varied role, requiring excellent attention to detail, good organisational skills and a professional approach to patient care.

Previous experience in a pharmacy, dispensary or GP practice environment would be advantageous. However, we are also interested in candidates with relevant transferable experience and a willingness to undertake appropriate training.

The successful candidate will: Provide a friendly, professional and welcoming reception service to patients and visitors. Answer telephone calls and deal with patient enquiries promptly and courteously, ensuring queries are directed to the appropriate member of the practice team.

Book, amend and cancel appointments in accordance with practice procedures. Support patients with general administrative and non-clinical queries..

Register new patients and maintain accurate patient records. Undertake general administrative duties, including scanning, filing, processing correspondence and updating records.

Support clinicians and the wider practice team with day-to-day administrative tasks. Liaise with hospitals, pharmacies, community services and other healthcare organisations where appropriate.

Maintain confidentiality and ensure patient information is handled securely and in accordance with practice policies and information governance requirements. Follow practice procedures relating to safeguarding, health and safety, infection prevention and confidentiality.

Work effectively as part of a busy multidisciplinary team and contribute to the smooth running of the practice. Deal with patients in a respectful, sensitive and professional manner, including those who may be distressed or have additional needs.

Undertake other reasonable administrative duties appropriate to the role. To provide a friendly, professional and efficient reception and administrative service to patients and visitors, supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the practice.

The post holder will work as part of the wider practice team, providing front-line support to patients, managing appointments and enquiries, maintaining accurate patient information and undertaking a range of administrative duties in accordance with practice policies, procedures and information governance requirements. The post holder will work within the limits of their training and competence and will refer clinical, complex or sensitive matters to the appropriate member of the practice team.
