You'll help with appointments, respond to queries and make sure patients are directed to the right person or service. Sometimes that means dealing with straightforward requests.

At other times, you'll need to listen carefully, follow our processes and recognise when something needs to be escalated. Keeping the practice running smoothly There's a lot that happens behind the scenes in General Practice.

You'll support the day-to-day administration that helps our clinical teams deliver care, including managing emails, correspondence, patient records and other administrative tasks. You'll need to be comfortable juggling different priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

Managing appointments and patient requests You'll book, amend and cancel appointments, helping us make the best use of the clinical time available. You'll also deal appropriately with urgent appointment requests and home visit requests, following practice procedures to make sure information reaches the right clinical colleague.

Supporting prescriptions and referrals You'll support the processing of repeat prescription requests in line with practice procedures and help ensure they're dealt with efficiently. You'll also help process referrals from our GPs, making sure information is complete and sent to the appropriate service.

Managing patient information Accurate information is essential to safe patient care. You'll help manage correspondence and hospital letters, update patient records, support new patient registrations and make sure information is coded, filed or passed to the appropriate member of the clinical team.

You'll work with our clinical system, SystmOne, and maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Being part of the practice team You'll work closely with GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants, administrators and practice colleagues.

Good primary care depends on people working together, so you'll communicate regularly with colleagues both within the practice and across other NHS and healthcare services. You'll be someone your colleagues can rely on to follow things through and get the details right.

The kind of person who'll enjoy working here Our Brighton practices are developing and changing, so we're looking for someone who is comfortable being part of a service that continues to evolve. For this role, that doesn't mean we expect you to come in and transform General Practice.

It means being willing to learn, being flexible when things change and approaching problems with a positive, practical attitude. You'll probably enjoy this role if you: Like helping people and providing good service Can stay calm and professional when someone is upset or frustrated Enjoy being busy and having a variety of things to do Are organised and pay attention to detail Can prioritise when several things need your attention Are comfortable using IT systems and learning new ones Can follow processes while using common sense Know when to make a decision and when to ask for help Work well as part of a team but can also get on with things independently Are dependable, punctual and take responsibility for getting things done Can adapt when priorities or ways of working change You don't need to know everything about General Practice on day one.

What matters is that you're willing to learn, care about doing a good job and understand that even the smallest interaction can make a difference to a patient's experience. What you'll bring You'll need: A good standard of education, including Maths and English GCSE at grades AC or equivalent Experience working in General Practice or the NHS Practical experience of working with others Experience of working under your own initiative Experience using IT systems in a working environment Experience using clinical systems such as SystmOne or EMIS Excellent verbal and written communication skills Confidence dealing with people face-to-face and over the phone The ability to resolve problems calmly, including when under pressure Good time management and the ability to work to deadlines Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and multitask A good understanding of confidentiality and the importance of protecting patient information A flexible, reliable and professional approach to work It would be great if you also have experience in customer service, understand basic medical terminology or have experience coding or summarising medical records.

The environment you'll work in Allied Medical Practice operates across School House Surgery and Church Surgery in Brighton. You'll be joining at an important time for our Brighton practices.
