Burney Street Practice is looking for a friendly, organised and motivated Medical Receptionist & Administrator to join our busy and supportive GP practice team. This is a varied role combining front-of-house patient services with essential administrative duties.
You will be one of the first points of contact for our patients, both face-to-face and over the telephone, and will work closely with our clinical and administrative teams to help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the practice. Previous GP practice or healthcare experience would be an advantage; however, we also welcome applications from candidates with strong reception, customer service or administrative experience who are enthusiastic, quick to learn and keen to develop within General Practice.

The role involves providing a friendly, efficient reception and administrative service to patients, visitors and the wider practice team.
Main duties include welcoming and assisting patients, answering telephone calls, managing appointments, responding to queries and signposting patients to the appropriate clinician or service. Administrative responsibilities include processing correspondence, scanning and filing documents, updating patient records and registrations, supporting patient recalls and QOF work, and completing tasks delegated by clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
The successful candidate will work across both practice sites and will need to be organised, flexible and able to manage a varied workload in a busy General Practice environment. Job Description The successful candidate will work across both Reception and Administration, providing an effective and efficient service to patients, colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
Your responsibilities will include: Welcoming patients and visitors in a friendly, professional and courteous manner Answering incoming telephone calls and dealing with patient enquiries Booking, amending and cancelling appointments in accordance with practice procedures Helping and signposting patients to the most appropriate clinician or healthcare service Responding to patient queries and providing accurate information Processing repeat prescription requests and directing queries appropriately Handling requests for home visits in accordance with practice protocols Maintaining a clean, tidy and professional reception area Supporting the opening and closing of the practice when required You will also undertake a range of administrative duties, including: Processing incoming and outgoing correspondence Scanning, filing and maintaining accurate patient records Processing new and temporary patient registrations Updating patient information on EMIS Web Monitoring and completing administrative tasks Supporting patient call and recall work, including QOF and long-term condition care Processing administrative requests and documentation Supporting clinical and non-clinical colleagues with delegated administrative tasks Attending staff meetings and contributing to service improvements The duties are varied, and the successful candidate will undertake a range of responsibilities depending on the needs of the practice.
