Job description

Job Title: Legal Assistant: Commercial Location: Harrow Civic Hub, Forward Drive, Harrow, HA3 8 NT Employer: Pertemps Recruitment Partnership (on behalf of London Borough of Harrow) Contract: Temporary - Initially 3 months, with potential for extension Hours: 36 hours per week Work Style: Hybrid / primarily office-based, with travel to client offices, courts and other locations as required Rate: £17.26 per hour PAYE (rates may negotiated dependant on experience)

Pertemps Recruitment Partnership is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join HB Public Law, the shared legal service supporting a number of North West London boroughs and Home Counties local authorities.

This is an excellent opportunity for a legal professional to work within a specialist public-sector legal environment, supporting a team of lawyers and having conduct of legal matters across areas including property, planning, regeneration, contracts and procurement.

The successful candidate will work as part of a specialist legal team, providing high-quality legal advice and support to public-sector clients while developing their legal knowledge, case management and client-facing skills.

Key Responsibilities

Provide legal advice and support on commercial matters including property, planning, regeneration, contracts and procurement.
Provide legal research and support to lawyers and colleagues across the service.
Manage a significant caseload in accordance with Lexcel requirements and maintain high standards of client care.
Draft legal documents, correspondence, pleadings and other relevant documentation.
Contribute to keeping clients and colleagues informed of relevant developments in law and policy.
Use electronic case management systems and Microsoft Office products effectively.
Undertake legal research and ensure accurate recording of instructions, advice and case information.
Represent clients, where appropriate, at courts, tribunals, panels and external meetings.

Requirements

The successful candidate will ideally have:

A qualification in law, such as a Law Degree, CPE or LPC, or be studying towards/hold another recognised legal qualification.
Alternatively, substantial experience working within a legal environment may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
Knowledge of English law, practice and procedure relating to property, planning, regeneration, contracts and/or procurement.
Knowledge and understanding of public law principles within a local government environment.
Experience managing a legal caseload with appropriate levels of supervision.
Strong legal research, drafting and case management skills.
Evidence of continuing professional development.

For candidates applying, experience of handling more complex matters with minimal supervision will be required. Candidates will also need to hold CILEX Fellow status and be entitled to use the Chartered Legal Executive Lawyer title, or hold an equivalent qualification.
