Assistant Accountant

Near Hitchin Hybrid Working

Salary: £32,000 - £35,000 per annum

Permanent role - full time (slightly reduced hours considered)

About the Role

We are working with a small but growing accountancy practice near Hitchin that is looking to hire an Assistant Accountant to take ownership of the day-to-day finances for a group of creative and music-focused businesses.

This is a fantastic hands-on opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and working closely with exciting clients in the creative sector. If you have a passion for music and festivals, that's a big plus.

The role could work well for someone studying or qualified AAT or studying towards ACCA. You could also be qualified by experience.

What You'll Be Doing

Managing the day-to-day bookkeeping for a group of businesses
Handling accounts payable and receivable
Bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate financial records
Ticket account reconciliations
Preparing and submitting VAT returns
Payroll processing
Assisting with month-end processes and reporting
Liaising directly with clients and stakeholders
Supporting year-end preparation and working closely with Fractional FD
Identifying opportunities to improve processes and efficiency

About You

Good academics, potentially studying AAT or ACCA/ QBE
Previous experience in a bookkeeping/accounts assistant or assistant account role.
Strong understanding of day-to-day accounting processes
Comfortable managing multiple entities or clients
Proficient in accounting software (e.g. Xero or similar)
Highly organised with strong attention to detail
Confident communicator with a proactive approach

Working Pattern & Location

Based in Whitwell, near Hitchin - 3 days in office (rural, must be a driver)
Hybrid working available
Approx. 2 days per month in clients London office
