Trainee Accounts Assistant / Junior Accounts Assistant (AAT)

Salary: £26,500 to £28,500, depending on experience Study support: Full AAT study package, including course fees, exam costs and paid study leave Location: Welwyn Garden City (office based, free parking) Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm

Start your finance career with a team that invests in you

Are you early in your AAT studies or ready to take your first proper step into accountancy? This is a brilliant opportunity for a bright, motivated junior to join a busy and friendly finance team and build real, hands-on experience across the whole accounts function.

Our client is a well-established business that operates across the UK and works on major projects within its sector. The company is growing quickly and this newly created role is a genuine ground-floor opportunity for someone who wants to learn, develop and grow a career in finance.

No two days are the same. Full training is provided and you will be supported every step of the way. If you have a keen eye for detail, a positive attitude and a genuine interest in building a career in finance, we would like to hear from you.

What is in it for you

Our client offers:

Full AAT study support, including course fees, exam costs and paid study leave
In-house training, seminars and workshops to help you grow
Recognition rewards and regular team bonding days
Client entertainment and charity events
A flat, autonomous structure where your ideas are heard
A social, collaborative and genuinely positive culture
A team that hires for attitude and cultural fit first, not just skills

What you will be doing

With full training and support, you will get involved across the finance function, including:

Raising and entering invoices, then entering and filing payment certificates onto the accounts system
Chasing outstanding debt and liaising with clients and collection agencies
Running credit checks on new and existing clients
Gaining exposure to legal collection letters and CCJs as your knowledge grows
Bank reconciliations for the UK and Ireland (sterling and euros)
Cashbook and general ledger entries and journals
Analysing and reconciling company card and fuel card statements
Banking cheques
Providing cover for payroll, mileage and expense claims when needed
General office filing and support across the team
Other ad hoc duties across the finance function

Do not worry if some of this is new to you. If you have the right attitude and a willingness to learn, our client will teach you the rest.

About you

Keen to build a career in finance, ideally early in your AAT studies or ready to begin
Genuine attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
A confident, friendly communicator both on the phone and in writing
Organised, reliable and comfortable working to deadlines in a busy team
A real team player who is happy to muck in and get stuck in
Any accounts experience is a bonus, but attitude matters most
