Job description

Executive Assistant & HR Administrator

Location: Hybrid with minimum one day a week in Crewe, Cheshire

Salary: Circa £35,000 per annum

Fixed-term contract: Maternity cover commencing November 2026

WE STAND FOR CHILDREN, THEIR CHILDHOODS AND THEIR FUTURES - WILL YOU?

Around the world hundreds of thousands of children struggle to survive on the streets. In many countries, they have become an accepted issue in society, deprived of access to the most basic services and they experience extreme harm before and during their time on the streets.

Wherever they may be in the world, they face violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation.

Founded in 1996, Railway Children has dedicated over a quarter of a century to developing outstanding practice and services for street connected children. With projects in the UK, India and Tanzania, we aim to reach these children as soon as they are in danger and intervene before an abuser can. As we work towards our new strategy to 2030, we have ambitious plans to ensure no child is left behind.

THE ROLE

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Executive Assistant and Administrator looking for an organisation with purpose, where your work makes a difference to vulnerable children every day.

Working closely with the Group CEO and the Director of People and Culture, this multi-faceted role will provide opportunities to be involved in all aspects of the work of the CEO office and People and Culture initiatives, across all of our work in India, Tanzania and the UK.

You will be the primary contact for internal and external communications with the CEO and our Trustees, whilst also meticulously administering our governance responsibilities and processes. You will provide professional and confidential business support, coordinating the activities of the Group CEO and administering HR processes such as recruitment. You will also have the opportunity to get involved in the organisation of specific Group projects, giving you a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in all areas of the charity.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Tenacious with impeccable attention to detail, we are looking for someone who can prioritise workload to keep projects on track and has the confidence to think on their feet and work autonomously. You will have a proven track record of working at a senior executive level, supporting senior leadership teams.

With outstanding written and verbal communication skills, you will have the ability to build strong relationships with people at all levels whilst maintaining high levels of discretion.

Advanced business support skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office are an essential part of this role, whilst experience of charity governance processes would be a distinct advantage.
