Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant Location: East London Hybrid Working Position: Permanent

We're delighted to be supporting a growing accountancy practice in the search for an experienced Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant to join their expanding team.

Working alongside a team of accountants and business advisors, you'll support a diverse portfolio of clients operating across the creative industries, including sectors such as design, fashion, advertising, media, film and entertainment. This is a varied, client-facing role offering the opportunity to build long-term relationships whilst working across a broad range of businesses. This opportunity would suit somebody who enjoys working closely with clients, thrives in a collaborative environment and is looking to continue developing their career within a modern, forward-thinking practice.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the day-to-day bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients.
Process purchase and sales ledger transactions, ensuring accurate financial records are maintained.
Perform bank, balance sheet and control account reconciliations.
Prepare journals, including accruals, prepayments and other month-end adjustments.
Prepare and submit VAT returns.
Support the preparation of year-end statutory accounts.
Build strong relationships with clients, becoming a trusted point of contact for day-to-day finance queries.
Work across a variety of cloud-based accounting systems, maintaining accurate financial data.
Support the wider team with ad hoc accounting projects as required.

About You:

Previous experience within an accountancy practice is essential.
A solid understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and VAT.
Experience using Xero, Sage, QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
Strong Excel skills and confidence working across multiple systems.
Excellent communication skills with the confidence to work directly with clients.
Organised, proactive and able to manage your own workload effectively.
Positive, personable and collaborative approach to work.
Keen to continue developing your accounting career within a growing practice.
AAT qualified or studying ACCA would be advantageous, but is not essential.
