Job description

Title: Accounts Assistant

Location: London (Hybrid - 1 day WFH)

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 + benefits

Our client, a leading professional services group operating across a diverse range of sectors, is looking for an Accounts Assistant to join their London finance team.

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, this is a broad and varied role offering exposure across day-to-day accounting, transactional finance, payroll, banking, and financial reporting. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the wider finance function.

Responsibilities

Maintain accurate bookkeeping records across the group
Manage the sales ledger, including raising invoices, allocating receipts, and monitoring outstanding debtors
Manage the purchase ledger, including processing supplier invoices, payment runs, and supplier reconciliations
Assist with credit control and proactively follow up outstanding balances
Support the preparation and processing of payroll
Maintain banking records, complete bank reconciliations, and assist with day-to-day banking relationships
Prepare and submit VAT returns
Support month-end processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations
Assist with management reporting and preparation of financial information
Monitor cash balances and support cash flow reporting
Liaise with suppliers, customers, banks, and internal stakeholders to resolve finance queries
Support the Head of Finance with ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and wider finance projects

Role Requirements

AAT qualified or studying towards AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent would be advantageous
Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant, or similar accounting role
Strong bookkeeping and transactional finance experience
Experience across accounts payable and accounts receivable
Exposure to payroll, VAT returns, and bank reconciliations
Good Excel skills and confidence working with accounting systems
Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
Excellent organisational and communication skills
Proactive approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Comfortable working within a fast-paced, commercial environment
