Job description

Residential Property Legal Secretary / Assistant Location: York or Malton, North Yorkshire Salary: £26,000 - £28,000 Hours: 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday to Friday Contract: Permanent, Full-time Working Pattern: Office Based

Are you an experienced Legal Secretary, Legal Assistant or Legal Administrator looking for a new opportunity in Malton?

We are recruiting for a Residential Property Legal Secretary / Assistant to join the conveyancing team of a well-established law firm.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous legal administration experience who is organised, proactive and confident providing high-quality support within a busy legal environment.

Previous experience within Residential Property or Conveyancing would be highly desirable, but it is not essential. Candidates with strong legal secretarial or administrative experience from another area of law are encouraged to apply.

The Role

You will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to solicitors and fee earners handling a varied caseload of residential property transactions.

Key responsibilities will include:

Preparing, formatting and amending legal correspondence and documentation
Supporting fee earners with residential sales, purchases, remortgages and related property matters
Opening new client files and assisting with file closing procedures
Liaising with clients, estate agents, solicitors, mortgage lenders and other third parties
Managing diaries, appointments and key transaction dates
Handling telephone calls, emails and incoming correspondence
Updating the firm's case management system and maintaining accurate client and matter records
Assisting with searches, Land Registry documentation and other conveyancing administration
Preparing documents and correspondence ahead of exchange and completion
Providing general administrative and secretarial support to the wider Residential Property team
Maintaining confidentiality and ensuring work is completed accurately and efficiently

About You

To be considered, you will need previous experience within a legal administration, legal secretarial or legal assistant position.

Experience within Residential Conveyancing or Property Law would be an advantage, but is desirable rather than essential. Training on the specific requirements of the department can be provided to someone with a strong legal administration background.

You should also be:

Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
Confident managing a busy and varied workload
Comfortable communicating with clients and third parties
Professional, approachable and client focused
Confident using Microsoft Office and case management systems
A strong written and verbal communicator
Able to work effectively as part of a busy legal team

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Legal Secretary, Legal Assistant or Legal Administrator looking to join a Residential Property team and potentially develop their experience within conveyancing and property law.
