Job description

I'm looking for a Temporary Assistant Accountant to provide additional support to my client's finance team for an initial 1-3 month assignment.

This is a broad role requiring someone comfortable with both transactional finance and month-end accounting, alongside the ability to investigate account entries, identify discrepancies and make corrections where needed.

Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting day-to-day Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
Processing and reviewing financial transactions
Bank and balance sheet reconciliations
Investigating unusual or incorrect account entries and identifying the root cause
Correcting discrepancies and ensuring accounting records are accurate
Posting journals, accruals and prepayments
Supporting month-end processes
Reviewing data and accounts to identify inconsistencies
Providing general finance support wherever required

About you

We're looking for someone with a broad, practical accounting background who can hit the ground running.

You'll ideally have:

Previous experience within an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Assistant or similar hands-on finance role
Good working knowledge of both AP and AR
Practical experience of reconciliations, journals and month-end processes
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - you'll be comfortable "unpicking" transactions and investigating where something doesn't look right
The confidence to work independently and use your own initiative
Good Excel and accounting systems experience
Availability to start at short notice

This role is fully site-based in Peterborough, working full-time hours, and is expected to last between 1 and 3 months.

Pay rate: up to £20.00 per hour, depending on experience.
